A nice beach and place to go to in West Melbourne is Williamstown beach. Its just about 15kms away from Melbourne city. Just take the Princess hiway and exit Kororoit creek road.

Theres are also some sheds with tables and chairs you can use and playgrounds for the kids. Its all free. Only thing you need to pay is the parking area which i think cost a bit more than the usual car park. We stayed for 4 hours and I payed about $10 for the stay.
That time we got a lovely weather of 25 degrees. The sun is up, not so windy and its perfect. My wife prepared me a lovely seafood pasta which for me is the best seafood pasta I ever tasted. It took me 2 1/2 plates to satisfy my cravings.
The most important thing of all is my wife and I spent quality time with our kids. Its a nice scene seeing our eldest son Enzo enjoying the beach as he collects some seashells and throwing sand over the dead jelly fishes by the shore.
